Lighten Up Your Attic With Skylights

January 23rd, 2018

Most of us tend to think of skylights as an excellent way to bring natural light into a dark room without turning on a light switch, and that is exactly what their main purpose is, however they are also great for other dark areas as well.

Areas that benefit from a skylight include;

  • Linen cupboards
  • Pantries
  • Cubby houses
  • Garden sheds
  • Garages
  • Attics

All these areas can be lit naturally with a skylight and for an extra benefit, there are ventilation skylights available.

For those of us who are conscious about saving energy costs and being environmentally friendly a skylight which has a built in ventilator is a smart choice.

Add natural light to any room in your home, including the attic.

Attic conversions are becoming very popular at the moment, so if you’re considering converting your attic into a bedroom, skylights and roof windows are the perfect way to add light and fresh air into that space.

Where there is a sloped roof, roof windows are an ideal choice for both practical and aesthetics reasons.

Just imagine lying in bed and looking up at the sky through your beautiful Velux roof window skylights! Simply stunning!

Skylights & Tubular Daylighting Devices

Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDDs) are also referred to as Tubular Skylights.

These high tech skylights capture daylight at the roof level and have a specular reflective tubing to direct most of the light they capture to the ceiling level and then offer a selection of diffusers to maximise the intensity of the light and improve the visual presentation of the light.

TDDs have an advantage of being able to offset the roof top structure from the ceiling so that the light can be “bent”.

As TDDs are small diameter, they tend to have lower heat loss and heat gain compared to a conventional skylight.

RJ Skylights carries three brands of Tubular Daylighting Devices, each with different looks and technology.

Skylight Blinds

Skylight Blinds appeal to those people who require light control in their skylights.

Skylight ceiling blinds are popular with home-based day care centres and schools that want to be able to shut off light through skylights while they are using AV equipment.

They are very useful in bedrooms or theatre rooms at home.

Our standard sizes are:

In’flector is a clever product that can be used on skylights to reduce heat transfer at the ceiling level. It is particularly useful on older style skylights that some customers may find hot in summer. It will reflect sunlight and radiant heat to reduce heat transfer by up to 50%. When the cooler weather comes it is simply taken out.
